New research from Don McClain connects cash flow, credit, collateral and financial documentation with a broader strategy for business funding and long-term capital planning.

August 26, 2026

Medro Advisors has expanded its Capital Readiness research initiative with a new series from Don McClain examining the Three C’s of Business Funding: Cash Flow, Credit and Collateral.

The August 26 research explores an important question for business owners:

How does a business prepare for capital before financing becomes urgent?

Rather than viewing business funding exclusively as an application followed by an approval or decline, the Capital Readiness framework evaluates the financial characteristics that may influence available financing options and identifies areas a business may be able to strengthen.

The framework begins with three fundamental areas:

Cash Flow — evaluating revenue, deposits, profitability, existing obligations and the company's capacity to support additional capital.

Credit — understanding how personal and business credit profiles may influence underwriting and available financing structures.

Collateral — identifying commercial real estate, equipment, receivables, inventory and other assets that may potentially create additional financing pathways.

A fourth component supports the framework:

The Capital File.

The Capital File represents the financial and business documentation necessary to substantiate the company's financing story. Depending on the transaction, that may include bank statements, financial statements, tax returns, debt schedules, entity documentation, collateral information and other underwriting materials.

From “Not Yet” to Capital Readiness

One of the central principles of the research is that a company unable to obtain its desired financing today should not automatically be considered permanently unfundable.

Sometimes the answer is simply:

Not yet.

That distinction creates an opportunity for a more strategic approach.

A business may be able to spend the next 30, 60 or 90 days strengthening elements of its financial profile before reassessing financing alternatives.

Potential areas of improvement may include:

Stabilizing revenue

Improving operating cash flow

Increasing average bank balances

Reducing existing obligations

Improving credit

Strengthening financial reporting

Organizing underwriting documentation

Completing the Capital File

The objective is not to guarantee future financing.

It is to help a business become better prepared to approach the capital markets.

Connecting Business Funding With a Broader Capital Strategy

The Three C’s research also supports the broader integrated strategy behind Medro Advisors.

A company's capital requirements rarely remain static.

A business may initially need working capital for inventory, payroll, marketing or expansion.

Later, that same business may require equipment financing, commercial real estate financing, acquisition capital, bridge financing or recapitalization.

Eventually, ownership may consider succession, an acquisition, recapitalization or the sale of the business.

Within the broader Medro platform, these requirements can be viewed as stages of an evolving capital strategy.

Fasty Funding serves business-funding, working-capital and Capital Readiness opportunities.

Fast Commercial Capital addresses commercial real estate financing, bridge capital, acquisitions, recapitalizations and more complex capital requirements.

Alianza Partners extends the platform into business acquisitions, ownership transitions, succession and transaction strategy.

Medro Advisors provides the broader strategic architecture connecting these specialized capabilities.

The objective is to create continuity across the capital lifecycle:

Capital Readiness → Business Funding → Growth → Structured Capital → Acquisition or Expansion → Ownership Transition
